About Power Perspectives

The Power Perspectives portal is an initiative to provide brief commentaries and analyses of important developments in the Indian power sector, in various states and at the national level. The portal is managed and updated by the Prayas (Energy Group).

The portal hosts articles and updates on a wide range of issues, including power procurement and capacity addition planning, tariff determination and design, demand assessment, renewable energy, electricity supply and service quality, and financial viability of electricity distribution companies.

The aim of the portal is to inform policy makers, regulators, researchers, journalists, civil society organisations and think tanks of important sector developments that are not adequately reported or tracked from a public interest perspective. The portal will be regularly updated with new articles. We hope that this endeavour contributes to the ongoing discourse in the sector.

The Power Perspectives portal currently hosts key developments in four states, namely- Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. We plan to add Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra in the coming months, and more states subsequently. In addition to updates on key developments in these select states, the portal also has articles on multi-state trends and national level developments.

The portal can be navigated using the state specific tabs or through the search tab. On the search tab, the “States” and/or “Issues” filter can be applied, with the help of dropdown menus.

All focus states that are part of Power Perspectives have “State Overviews” which provide a brief background and highlight important developments in these states. Additionally, the “Infographics” provide a snapshot of trends in the important statistics of the state.

Comments and suggestions on the articles and the initiative are always welcome. You can reach us at powerperspectives@prayaspune.org.
